“Toxic Friend” Characteristics

Parents, we know that we are the number one influence in our child’s lives. But, when they become young adults, they start to pull away from us and push more into their peer groups.⁣⁣
⁣⁣
We encourage you to have conversations with your children about friendship characteristics. 𝐓𝐨𝐝𝐚𝐲, 𝐥𝐞𝐭’𝐬 𝐟𝐨𝐜𝐮𝐬 𝐨𝐧 “𝐓𝐨𝐱𝐢𝐜 𝐅𝐫𝐢𝐞𝐧𝐝” 𝐜𝐡𝐚𝐫𝐚𝐜𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐢𝐬𝐭𝐢𝐜𝐬.👇⁣⁣
⁣⁣
𝘛𝘩𝘦 𝘜𝘴𝘦𝘳 & 𝘔𝘢𝘯𝘪𝘱𝘶𝘭𝘢𝘵𝘰𝘳: This person only wants you as a friend because of what you can do for them. This person knows how to get you to do what you ordinarily would not do.⁣⁣
⁣⁣
𝘛𝘩𝘦 𝘎𝘰𝘴𝘴𝘪𝘱𝘦𝘳 & 𝘗𝘳𝘰𝘮𝘪𝘴𝘦 𝘉𝘳𝘦𝘢𝘬𝘦𝘳: This person rarely does what they said they will do, and cannot be depended upon. They can also tell others what you tell them in private.⁣⁣
⁣⁣
𝘛𝘩𝘦 𝘚𝘦𝘭𝘧 𝘊𝘦𝘯𝘵𝘦𝘳𝘦𝘥 & 𝘊𝘰𝘮𝘱𝘦𝘵𝘪𝘵𝘰𝘳: This person only thinks about them self and is too busy for other people. They also like to “one up” others and want to compete all the time. ⁣⁣
⁣⁣
𝘛𝘩𝘦 𝘓𝘦𝘢𝘯𝘦𝘳 & 𝘊𝘰𝘯𝘵𝘳𝘰𝘭𝘭𝘦𝘳: This person is very needy and is always asking for help. They can show signs of jealousy, and can also seem bossy. ⁣⁣
⁣⁣
We encourage you to talk to your child to see if they have any friends that exhibit theses traits, or if they themselves exhibit any of these traits. 𝐒𝐚𝐯𝐞 𝐭𝐡𝐢𝐬 𝐩𝐨𝐬𝐭 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐥𝐚𝐭𝐞𝐫 so you can reference back to it! 👉
