Parenting Tip – Tuesday
đ˘ đŁđŽđżđ˛đťđđ, itâs #parentingtiptuesday let’s talk about effective communication with our teens! đŁď¸
As parents, we understand how important it is to communicate effectively in general but lets focus effective communication with our children especially during our teens’ most challenging years.
Here are three barriers to effective communication that we should try to minimize:
1ď¸âŁ Jumping in, rather than listening to your child – Sometimes, all our children want is a listening ear. We don’t always have to fix it for them.
2ď¸âŁ Judging what your child says, and not validating their point of view – We should listen in a non-judgmental way. Be mindful that our non-verbal communication can communicate judgment too.
3ď¸âŁ Interrupting our children and interrogating them – Let’s try to understand that we may come across as interrogating when we want more information and clarity.
We hope that these insights will help you build stronger relationships with your children. Feel free to share your own tips and ideas in the comments below. Let’s work together to build better communication with our children! đđ¨âđŠâđ§âđŚ
